EssentialLump charcoal
Supermarket briquettes give smoke and ash; a kamado is built for large lumps that burn for hours. Marabu is the classic choice — hard wood, little ash, and what is left over gets reused next time.

Big Green Egg
The largest there is, and rarely the kamado you need
€4,995.00
Too few measurements yetWe have only recently started tracking this price. Once we have measured enough days, this will say whether now is a good moment.
The 2XL is the size restaurants and caterers work with: a grate that takes twenty whole chickens. It is also the heaviest ceramic Big Green Egg makes, at a weight that takes four people to lift and is then never moved again.
For home use this is almost always too much. A half-full 2XL costs a serious amount of extra charcoal and three quarters of an hour of warm-up every session, and delivers exactly what a full Large does. It is here because it exists and people search for it, not because we recommend it.
There is no stand included, as with every Big Green Egg. At this size that frame is a purchase in itself.
Who it suits: Catering, a club, or anyone routinely cooking for twenty.
Always sorted by price

No price history yet — we have only just started measuring.
This is what we know for certain. Measurements the manufacturer or the shop does not state are left out rather than estimated — a grate size or a weight that is not there is one we do not have.
Price alert
Kamados drop hardest at the end of the barbecue season and around Black Friday. Leave your email address and we will send a message as soon as the price falls — or only once it goes below your figure.

EssentialWood-wool lighters rather than fluid or chemical cubes. Lighter fluid is something you taste for the first hour, and in a kamado that flavour sits in the ceramic where it does not come out again.

Measuring
RecommendedThe gauge in the lid measures the air at the top of the dome, not the meat and not the grate. For anything taking more than an hour, core temperature is the only number that counts.

Protection
RecommendedFor the XL sizes, which rarely fit under anything and therefore stand outside all year. Roomy enough to fall over a stand with side shelves.

Maintenance
RecommendedAsh in the base blocks the bottom vent, and a kamado that gets no air holds no temperature. A hook that reaches the back of the firebox is the difference between two minutes of work and half a teardown.

Maintenance
Can waitThe felt between dome and base wears, and a kamado drawing air past the lid can no longer be held at a low setting. This is the part that comes due after a few years, and it is replaceable without tools.
