Patton Classic Kamado 16" Table Chef

Patton

Classic Kamado 16" Table Chef

Six centimetres more grate, and that is worth a whole dish

€299.00

Too few measurements yet

We have only recently started tracking this price. Once we have measured enough days, this will say whether now is a good moment.

The gap between twenty-eight and thirty-four centimetres sounds small and is not: the grate grows by almost half. That is the point where indirect cooking fits alongside direct grilling, and therefore where you can do a chicken with room to spare.

Table Chef means it is built to stand on something — a worktop, a garden table, an outdoor kitchen. Patton sells separate stands for it, which pushes the price straight towards the compact models that include one. If you know it is going on a table, that is money saved.

Who it suits: An outdoor kitchen or a fixed worktop where the kamado can simply stay put.

This is what we know for certain. Measurements the manufacturer or the shop does not state are left out rather than estimated — a grate size or a weight that is not there is one we do not have.

Strong

  • Enough grate for a whole chicken
  • Still quick to come up to temperature
  • Fits on a normal worktop

Less strong

  • A stand costs a third of the barbecue on its own
  • Too small for a brisket or a full rack

Accessories that fit this kamado

Lump charcoal

Fuel

Essential

Lump charcoal

Supermarket briquettes give smoke and ash; a kamado is built for large lumps that burn for hours. Marabu is the classic choice — hard wood, little ash, and what is left over gets reused next time.

Firelighters

Fuel

Essential

Firelighters

Wood-wool lighters rather than fluid or chemical cubes. Lighter fluid is something you taste for the first hour, and in a kamado that flavour sits in the ceramic where it does not come out again.

Meat thermometer

Measuring

Recommended

Meat thermometer

The gauge in the lid measures the air at the top of the dome, not the meat and not the grate. For anything taking more than an hour, core temperature is the only number that counts.

Cover 13–15 inch

Protection

Recommended

Cover 13–15 inch

Ceramic copes with frost, but the hardware and hinges do not cope with months of rain. At this size a cover is the cheapest maintenance there is.

Ash tool

Maintenance

Recommended

Ash tool

Ash in the base blocks the bottom vent, and a kamado that gets no air holds no temperature. A hook that reaches the back of the firebox is the difference between two minutes of work and half a teardown.

Gasket felt

Maintenance

Can wait

Gasket felt

The felt between dome and base wears, and a kamado drawing air past the lid can no longer be held at a low setting. This is the part that comes due after a few years, and it is replaceable without tools.
