The Core range succeeds the Urban series: heavier ceramic, a revised hinge, and the graphite finish The Bastard is now rolling out across the whole line-up. This is that generation at compact size.
The difference against the Urban is mostly in the finish and how the lid is hung, not in what happens on the grate. Whether that is worth the price gap depends on how often you open it — and on a kamado that is more often than people expect.
Who it suits: Anyone who wants to stay compact but buy into the current generation.

The gauge in the lid measures the air at the top of the dome, not the meat and not the grate. For anything taking more than an hour, core temperature is the only number that counts.

Ash in the base blocks the bottom vent, and a kamado that gets no air holds no temperature. A hook that reaches the back of the firebox is the difference between two minutes of work and half a teardown.
